Apple still has three unannounced iOS 27 features in the pipeline: reporting

Apple wrapped up its WWDC 2026 keynote this week, touting all the major new software features for next year, including Siri AI and improved stability. However, there are still a few new features that are reportedly in the works, and we should still see them by September. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Simplified Modular Ultra face

apple reported has developed a simpler version of the popular Apple Watch Ultra-exclusive wristwatch. It would include the large watch of the Modular Ultra, but would lack the second row of complications. It wasn’t unveiled at WWDC, but it’s likely to be revealed alongside the new Apple Watch releases in September.

As someone who previously owned an Apple Watch Ultra, I will say that I lost that face a bit after moving to the Series 10, so it would be nice to have a simplified version of it.

Additional Siri extensions

One of the main rumors for iOS 27 was that there would be Siri support other chatbotsLike ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.

Currently, Apple still supports ChatGPT as a result of its initial partnership with OpenAI from 2024 for Siri’s initial integration. However, this is not quite the same as what Apple is aiming for with the latest feature.

In iOS 27, Apple wanted to allow apps to integrate with Siri directly through the Extensions API, rather than having to order with each company that wanted to integrate with Siri. The main difference here is that this will just be a third-party integration, so it likely won’t have the same privacy guarantees as the original ChatGPT deal – since it’s not a partnership.

Apple is working to move ChatGPT to this new integration model, although nothing has materialized yet. From Bloomberg:

Apple has already had discussions with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google about supporting this new system, including the details of what rights they need to apply for and integrate into their apps, and I have no doubt it will still arrive at some point.

Gurman speculates that there are four main reasons why it hasn’t arrived yet:

  • This will not work alongside Apple’s campaign against DMA in the European Union
  • If better models were integrated from day one, Siri AI would be less of a focus
  • Apple may want to avoid the OpenAI lawsuits the company has threatened
  • Doing an additional third-party integration alongside the Gemini partnership can cause unnecessary confusion

However, as September approaches, we’ll be hearing more about how these extensions will work. In theory, any prominent AI company will be able to do this – and you’ll be able to use their features with Siri.

Customizable Camera app

Finally, iOS 27 should have a feature fully customizable camera appwhere users can move their controls to a location of their choice. This didn’t materialize in the initial developer beta, though other features like Siri in the Camera app did.

With the release of the iPhone 18 Pro in September, this release cycle is going to sound a little more interesting.
