After 22 years at the developer, Mark Gordon is the head of the studio Treyarchone of the leading development teams Xbox working on it Call of Duty — chose to retire from his position at the studio and “focus on the next chapter.”
Treyarch announced the news along with Monday afternoon letter to fans on social mediaWhile noting Gordon’s long and storied tenure at the developer, it also reveals who will be stepping up to fill his shoes.
“We are incredibly grateful to Mark for his continued leadership and deep care of the studio, its culture and its people. Mark’s impact on the franchise has been immeasurable. Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One and Call of Duty 3 to World War 1 and the entire Black Ops series,” he wrote studio.
“Looking forward, we’re excited to announce Treyarch’s Kevin Hendrickson and Yale Miller will be stepping into the roles of co-studio heads,” he said. “Kevin and Yale are franchise veterans with decades of development and leadership experience, bringing both a wealth of gaming knowledge and a shared commitment to Treyarch’s culture and creative ambitions.”
Hendrickson and Miller will oversee Treyarch as it contributes to the future of Call of Duty, which acquires the legendary franchise under Microsoft and Xbox. Activision completed the Blizzard merger in 2023.
Primarily, this work will likely cover the new entries in the Black Ops series, although I expect Treyarch to help with other Call of Duty games as well. Notably, he is listed as one of the contributing developers in this year’s upcoming app Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 From Infinity Ward.
As for Gordon himself, he has undoubtedly helped shape one of the most successful gaming properties in the world, and I wish him nothing but health and happiness as he transitions through Treyarch and Call of Duty.
