Spotify is dropping username logins later this year


Spotify has communicated to its subscribers that starting later this year, the platform will no longer be able to login with a username, switching to an email-based login.

Like today, Spotify allows Users can log in with their username and password, email address and password, or log in through other accounts such as Google and Apple.

In an email to subscribers today, Spotify says that username/password access will be removed later this year. Instead, Spotify will only trust email addresses and social account logins.

The email reads:

We’re changing the way you sign in to Spotify. As of September 1, 2026, you will no longer be able to log in with your username. You can sign in with your email instead.

Prefer to use a different email? You can change this in your account settings or by clicking the button below.

As far as we know, Spotify has not announced this change via its blog or forums.

The change takes effect on September 1, 2026 – just over two months away.
