Spotify is making a significant change to the way you sign in to your account.
The company has started emailing subscribers to let them know that as of September 1, 2026, username-based logins will no longer be supported. So if you Spotify You will soon need to use your email address for a username and password.
In an email to users, Spotify says:
“Starting September 1, 2026, you will no longer be able to sign in with your username. You can sign in with your email instead.”
The email also encourages users to review or update the email address associated with their account before the change takes effect.
Spotify currently offers several ways to sign in. You can use a username and password, email address and password, or linked accounts such as Google and Apple. According to Spotify’s notice, the username-only login option is being discontinued. The company did not say whether other login methods would be affected.
Spotify has offered email-based authentication and access to third-party accounts for years. However, if you’re one of those old users who still type in your Spotify username when signing in to a new device, you’ll want to make sure you know which email address is associated with your account.
