TL; DR
- OnePlus is adding a new OnePlus 15R variant with higher RAM.
- Previously limited to 12GB, the OnePlus 15R now gets a 16GB RAM option with 512GB storage.
- The option is unfortunately limited to India at the moment.
If you want to get the latest generation Android that offers high performance and super fast charging, OnPlus 15 one of the easiest bets you can make. But if you don’t want $900 out of your pocket, a relatively more affordable but equally powerful alternative OnePlus 15R. The latter is also better value for money seems like a better choice for a bigger battery and an equally smooth 165fps gaming experience. However, this can be limiting if you want to experiment with more demanding workloads, such as running a large AI model on the device. For those on a similar fix, OnePlus has quietly introduced a new variant with higher RAM.
The OnePlus 15R was initially launched in two variants: 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB. However, a third variant has now been added to the lineup, offering 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The new variant of the OnePlus 15R appears to be exclusive to India right now (via Gizbot), where it is currently listed in both Amazon and the company’s local site. In terms of price, the variant is available for INR 61,999 ($655).
In the US, the lowest variant of the phone starts at $700. This means that if OnePlus plans to bring a 16GB variant, it could be priced around $775-$800.
I should note that this is just an assumption based on price trends. But if that’s true, it might still be more attractive than the flagship OnePlus 15, which costs $1,000 for its 16GB RAM and 512GB storage variant.
The exact reason why OnePlus is bringing this new variant is not immediately clear, especially for tech brands destroying devices with higher RAM to keep prices under control. It would probably fill the gap created by more than one ending price increases The OnePlus 15 is available in India, where it has received a price hike of INR 8,000 (~$90) since its launch. Meanwhile, the Ultra is coming for the next generation of Android flagships seems difficult due to lack of.
We’ve reached out to OnePlus representatives in the US to check if it plans to launch this new 15R variant here, and we’ll keep you posted on what the brand says. We do not expect similar treatment in Europe the company is downsizing operations and removes products from its catalog.
