While most Android Auto users will want to use the platform just for navigation and music, apps can add value. For example, messaging apps can be a useful way to safely access messages behind the wheel, which is why some Android Auto users are disappointed by the sudden disappearance of Facebook Messenger.
Most major messaging apps offer Android Auto to collect any incoming messages during the current visit. On long drives, this can certainly come in handy for handling multiple conversations.

The change comes with zero warning, the app simply disappears. Meta has not officially announced the reason for the deletion.
It’s not clear if this is just a bug or an intentional omission. Meanwhile, Android Auto’s notification interface still supports Messenger notifications without a direct filter.
