Gemini for Android uses Bubbles to multitask

After adding Dynamic Color earlier this month, the Gemini cover on Android now uses Bubbles to track conversations.

To enter, start a conversation with Gemini. After seeing the floating answer, tapping anywhere else on the screen will simply drop Gemini into a Bubble displaying the spark logo.

When you first use it, Google explains, “Twins are still available when multitasking. Tap to expand. Swipe to move or dismiss.”

Tapping the bubble returns the full Gemini match and answer so you can continue the conversation. Previously, once you closed the cover, you would lose that conversation and have to open the full app to continue.

It’s a bit like Gemini Live’s floating waveform circle, the chat experience now gets something similar. The purpose is probably to let you talk to Gemini while you’re doing other tasks. With the start Android 17you can also bump the main application for similar continuous access.

So far we have received only one report with Android 17 QPR1 Beta. It doesn’t appear on the devices we tested today.
