Diablo Immortal‘s 5.0 update is one of the biggest additions the game has seen in a while. There’s a new story chapter, a return to the iconic city of Lut Gholein, fresh Helliquary content, and tons of new stuff for end-game players to sink their teeth into. But let’s be honest: none of these are headlines. The real attraction here is Hell, Diablo Immortal‘s final class, and arguably his most notable yet.
Witch is what you’d expect from a class built around forbidden demonology. He summons horrors from beyond, opens portals, sacrifices his health for power, and generally feels like he’s one bad decision away from being a raid leader. Blizzard clearly went for the fantasy here, and it pays off. The class feels different from the moment you start your quest for origins. Darker. More dangerous. Less as a hero and more as someone willing to do whatever it takes to stop Hell, even if it means taking some of his power away from him.
In terms of gameplay, the Witcher sits somewhere between a summoner and a wizard. You don’t command an army like a Necromancer, but you never fight alone. Satan’s minions, hellfire attacks, portals, transformations – there’s a lot happening on screen at any given moment. The Soulgorger in particular stands out, giving the class a unique personality and making combat feel chaotic at its best.
And visually? It’s awesome. Each ability is designed to impress. Blasts of hellfire, demonic apparitions, spinning portals; The Warlock might be the highest level class Blizzard has added to the game to date, and that’s a compliment.
That is, the class is not perfect. While the fantasy is top notch, the numbers could use some work. I personally found Warlock to be a bit underpowered compared to classes like Blood Knight, Tempest or Necromancer. Some builds struggle to survive, especially when you’re constantly trading health for damage. It’s entirely possible that the class will come into its own once I’ve unlocked more legendary essences and figured out optimal builds, but right now it feels like an incredibly fun class to play without necessarily being the strongest option available.
Outside of Warlock, the update itself is solid. Returning to Lut Gholein feels like a real Diablo fanservice moment, and the new content gives veterans a good reason to log in again. It may not completely reinvent the game, but it moves the story forward and expands the world in a meaningful way.
Overall, Diablo Immortal 5.0 is good because it understands what players are most excited about. The Warlock delivers sheer fantasy, style and spectacle. It may need a balance switch or two before it reaches its full potential, but even as it stands, it’s one of the most interesting classes the game has to offer. Most importantly, he succeeded at what he was supposed to do, which gives people like me a reason to get back into the game. Which is always a win for the live service mobile game in today’s climate.
