Three Apple Store locations closing today:

Why is Apple closing these stores?

a statement for 9-5Mac in April, Apple attributed the closures to “the departure of several retailers and reduced conditions” at the malls where the three stores are located.

At Apple, we are constantly striving to provide our customers with exceptional service and a great experience. As we continue to invest in expanding and improving our retail stores and offerings around the world, we continue to consider evaluating our existing locations to ensure we can best meet our customers’ needs.

Following the departure of several retailers and declining conditions at Trumbull Mall, Shops at North County and Towson Town Center, we made the difficult decision to close stores at these locations.

For example, Trumbull Mall recently defaulted has taken on more than $150 million in loans as it faces ongoing struggles and business closures. Towson Town Center, just outside of Baltimore, lost many of its businesses so far this yearIncluding Tommy Bahama, Banana Republic and Madewell.

In April, Apple said employees at the Trumbull and Escondido stores “will be able to continue in their roles at nearby Apple Retail stores.” However, Apple Towson Town Center employees “may apply for open positions at Apple in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.”

Apple Towson Town Center is the first Apple Store location in the United States to make an alliance In June 2022. Apple’s decision to close the store was welcomed harsh criticism from unityIt is part of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. There are legislators also criticized Apple’s decision to close Apple Towson Town Center.

IAM Union International President Brian Bryant in April he said:

“It’s about whether workers are treated fairly under the law or punished for exercising their rights. (…) Apple is denying unionized workers the same opportunities as others — and it’s doing so because those workers choose to organize. It’s discriminatory and designed to circumvent federal labor law.”

In the event of a store closing, Apple says its union contract requires it to offer a relocation within 50 miles of the Towson store if it opens a new store within 50 miles of the location. Apple currently has no plans to open a new store in the area.
