Just days after reports, a new report suggests that Samsung may be discontinuing the Galaxy Z TriFold Bloomberg now confirmed. A Samsung spokesperson said the phone will be discontinued in the US once remaining inventory is cleared.
That’s not all, as Samsung has reportedly already started working on its successor Galaxy Z TriFold. according to the report of Naver (via 9 to 5 Google), the company is developing a new generation TriFold device targeted for 2027.
Samsung is said to be currently testing the “technical capabilities” of the device, with no confirmed plans for a commercial launch yet. The prototype is said to be both thinner and lighter than the current Galaxy Z TriFold.

To some extent, it feels like Samsung is waiting for component prices to stabilize before making the device more reliable. This is unlikely to happen immediately, which is in line with the reported 2027 timeline.
It’s interesting that Samsung is working on a successor so soon, especially after that the first generation was discontinued sooner than expected. Given that high production costs were cited as the reason for the discontinuation, the company could focus on a design that was easier to manufacture and more cost-effective.
But that’s not all. Samsung is also reportedly working on another interesting device for 2027. The company is said to be developing the first commercial sliding smartphone, whose screen expands to around 7 inches.
Samsung already has It showed off similar concepts at MWC 2026 (and even CES 2026) but did not approve any commercial plans at that time. Although the current prototype is still in development, it is said to use a manual sliding mechanism rather than a motorized system.
