as Previewed at I/O 2026now the Gemini app on Android integrates With Google Play Store.
This new “connected app” lets you use Gemini to chat in the Play Store to find Android apps and games. Example guidelines include:
- What are some meditation apps?
- Please recommend a good map app to download for my phone while traveling internationally
- Can you recommend an app that will show me which fish to see on my upcoming scuba diving trip?
- I’ve been into the blurry, vintage film look on social media – what app can I use to get that 90s disposable camera aesthetic for my photos?
- Find a productivity app to help me plan meals
Some results will directly show a Play Store card listing apps with ratings and download counts, as well as a “See more on Google Play” link. Tapping an app Scrolls up the list of apps to install.
Other prompts will give the traditional Gemini answer that describes the various options. In these cases, you can proceed with “Install (app name)” or “Download (game name)” to get the Play card.
Another aspect of this Google Play integration allows you to use Gemini to “search for and purchase in-app digital items, subscriptions, or digital gift cards.” Support for gift cards was introduced last year.
- Purchase (in-app item) for (game name)
- Buy a (store name) gift card
- Show in-app purchases for (app name).
“Gemini can only recommend in-app items for apps installed on your device,” Google says. In addition, “not all applications support in-app purchases on Gemini connected to Google Play, but the list is actively growing.”
Follow one of the instructions above to install a Google Play connected app. Gemini will then guide you to connect to the Play Store. This integration is still rolling out and didn’t appear on the devices we checked this morning.
