T-Mobile hit its old customers with a sudden price hike, canceling original plans and increasing subscription costs to $6 per line per month.
According to preliminary information, now Verified by T-Mobilethe company has started migrating a large number of customers from old plans to new ones. Most of those affected are on Simple Choice, ONE/ONE Plus, Magenta and grandfathered Sprint plans.
T-Mobile has already started sending emails and messages to affected customers. In the notification, the company says that users will retain their current benefits, but will also get additional benefits and an improved service experience. T-Mobile also offers a 5-year price guarantee on new plans.
In a statement, T-Mobile said it is canceling its oldest plans, some of which were established in the 3G and 4G era as far back as 15 years. The company noted that “customers will upgrade to modern plans with access to better wireless technology, improved features and a 5-year price guarantee.”
It added that some customers will see no change to their monthly bill, while others will see a modest adjustment, and each customer who switches to the new plan will retain their existing benefits while getting improvements to their network and service experience.
No wonder customers aren’t happy. Many take to social media and Reddit to express their frustrationsome have filed complaints in official state courts about the price lock guarantee, and a number of users are reportedly planning to switch to Verizon’s new Simplicity plan.
A Reddit post also shed some light on what the new plans will look like. They will fall under a new category called Experience Signatures/Select/More/Beyond plans, and most tiers will include benefits such as hotspot sharing and unlimited premium data with ad-free Netflix.
