Simon Says… Buy this OpenAI Mechanical Keyboard Item

According to a vague post from the OpenAI Developers X account, OpenAI and mechanical keyboard company Work Louder are preparing something on July 15th:

Vibe coding and mechanical keyboards are two hopeless pleasures that go together beautifully Celsius and peptides. So it’s only natural that OpenAI releases shaimabob, which converts some common Codex shortcuts – possibly some of the ones mentioned. here— pressing buttons with illumination.

Device in X script (probably nothing to do with OpenAIs upcoming Jony Ive related device) is very similar to the modified Work Louder macro panel at Gizmodo Highly recommended in 2023. Figma released a custom Work Louder macro pad after that year. A macro pad is a small array of customizable inputs that let you hit all your favorite keys and flip keys on a device that (arguably) looks and feels nicer than your regular keyboard.

But if you believe in these types of devices, this is just the beginning. In dimly lit rooms full of loud humming CPU fans, the way I’ve been told this sort of thing is that sensory feedback – clicks, sounds, flashing lights, etc. – reduces errors and increases efficiency.

Or maybe some people like it when their work tasks feel like playing Simon:

It’s a legit thing if you ask me.
