TL;DR

  • Pixel owners report a problem with incoming calls simply not ringing.
  • Google is aware of these reports, but has not yet issued any advice.
  • It is possible that users can find relief by changing a few Phone app settings.

Smartphones are great little rectangles that keep us connected with instant messaging, keep us entertained throughout the day, keep up with the latest news, and more. Despite everything they’re capable of, it’s sometimes easy to forget that these devices are still phones. Recently, some Pixel owners have been struggling with the main voice callsnoticed that their phones were silently ignoring incoming calls.

We’re not sure how widespread this problem is – it certainly doesn’t seem to have an impact each Pixel users, even a large number of them – but we definitely find a few similar reports of issues with dropped voice calls going back about a month or so.

We see between Reddit’s Pixel alt and Google’s own issue tracker users to report problems On phones like Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 8 and even Pixel 6a. The main shared factor of their experiences is missed calls, and users see nothing on the screen when these calls are received.

Although the sudden appearance of this problem feels that it is related to a software or system update, at least one user possible fix we hope it might be due to misconfiguration of settings. They succeeded by turning off Fraud Detection and Call Screen in the settings for Google’s Phone app. They also think Android is Advanced Protection Mode this may be at the root of the issue.

So far, Google hasn’t shared anything definitive about the causes or solutions here. We know the company is aware of the issue thanks to this busy issue tracker, but we’re still waiting for any response.

Last month we shared a similar issue that seems related vibrate for callshowever, it is not at all clear whether they are related.

If you’ve been missing calls, take a look in your Phone app settings to see if any of those automatic filtering options are enabled, and toggle them to see if changing them helps. Given how critical voice calls can still be in this day and age, we hope Google makes the necessary adjustments soon.
