OpenAI combines ChatGPT, Codex and its browser into one super program

Summary

  • ChatGPT is building a “super application” to integrate OpenAI, ChatGPT, Codex and Atlas into one hub.

  • Superapp aims to reduce application fragmentation and simplify resources in OpenAI projects.

  • Agent tools will allow AI to invoke Codex, Atlas, and desktop tasks to perform specific user tasks.

It seems that OpenAI has finally found a solution to the problem of scattered software. Although the company is working hard to produce various services such as web browsers, it seems that it does not have a single focus. If true, the company likely has a major user fragmentation problem, where people will eagerly use one app while ignoring another.

So what is the solution? Simple: Gather all parts under one banner so that ChatGPT enthusiasts can move apps with one click. ChatGPT is working on a “super application” that will integrate all individual applications to provide users with a one-stop shop for all their OpenAI needs.

As reported The Wall Street JournalOpenAI is developing a “super application” that will feature some of the larger applications in one package. If you feel like OpenAI’s 2025 strategy is a little fragmented considering all the initiatives it’s trying, you’re not alone; Company executives are using this super program to “streamline resources” as competition heats up. As Fiji Simo, head of applications, said in an internal note:

“We realized that we were spreading our efforts across too many applications and stacks and needed to simplify our efforts. This fragmentation was slowing us down and making it difficult to reach the quality bar we wanted.”

Currently, OpenAI is working to add the superapp ChatGPT LLM, the coding platform Codex, and the web browser Atlas. The company is also working on agent tools that allow AI to access each device to perform specific tasks. It also enables ChatGPT to perform tasks on people’s desktops as well.
