Plex’s $249.99 plan is back, but only if you’re willing to pay it again in 5 years

In mid-May, Plex shocked its users by announcing that it was tripled the cost of its lifetime plan from $249.99 to $749.99. Luckily, the company has given us until July 1st for the change to take effect, meaning anyone on the fence about buying one can still get one before the price hike.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Plex is back on the $249.99 pricing plan. The bad news is that it will now only give you five years of service instead of a lifetime.

If you’ve been out of the loop, Plex initially tripled the price of the Lifetime Pass so it “continues to more accurately reflect its true value.” The Lifetime Pass first debuted at $75, then jumped to $120 over the course of nearly a decade. It then went up to $249.99 in April 2025 and now to $749.99 this month. This new 5-year plan is likely an effort to bridge the huge gap between the Annual Pass at $69.99 and the Lifetime Pass at $749.99.
