The next beta for Android 17’s first quarterly update has passed a major development hurdle. Here’s everything Pixel testers can find.
Google announced Android 17 QPR1 Beta 6 is now available for registered Pixel users. As vCP31.260618.005 rolls out to Pixel 6 and newer phones, Google says Beta 6 of the quarterly update has reached Platform Stability. This is a key milestone as Google begins preparations for a wider (fixed) rollout for phones. This latest beta is a bit lighter. Google has a few bugs it wants to iron out before further testing.
The company reports that it causes a visual glitch when “scrolling the media carousel.” Google says users have experienced this in the Quick Settings layout and settings tabs. Another fix is the result of several reports on three Issue Tracker threads after Beta 5. Pressing the volume keys is reported to produce unexpected results in the Clock app.
The rest of the changelog is as follows:
- Users could not select multiple spell checker languages
- An issue with WindowManagerGlobal resulting in application crashes
- Enabling the Wi-Fi hotspot showed a common default SSID instead of the user’s saved custom name

I wonder if Google is moving too fast. There are still plenty of pressing issues affecting users with Android 17 and other glaring issues for Pixels in general. Google has acknowledged some, but some have been missing for months clearly solution. I hate to see things get more out of hand than they are.
Beta 6 Pixel testers were blown away. It’s only been a week since QPR1 Beta 5 and this patch went live carried a significant number bug fixes. The latest beta provided a fix for an Android 17 issue that fixed Pixel users were experiencing: disappearing widgets. So, even though Google has acknowledged the issue and has already fixed it, Pixel users still have some time to wait before it hits their phones (unless it’s in beta). Android 17 QPR1 reaching Platform Stability in early July probably shouldn’t surprise us. Google has spread Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 in August of last year, shortly after the Pixel 10 was released. Google accelerates the development process and at the same time tries to eliminate bugs. We have a chance to see something similar happen this year.
