Google’s smart home environment is rolling out with updates, and another update is coming to users in mid-April.
Google shared details about its Home app update this week, saying users can expect four major improvements. His change log provides more information as the first update covers your media and playlist support. General support does not change; however, he Twinsthe ability to find and play the song or playlist you requested is improved. Google says that even if you make a mistake or are in a “noisy environment,” the AI should still be able to read the song/playlist you requested.
Once again, Google is focusing its efforts on improving the understanding side of Gemini. This update allows Gemini to “integrate context clues to better understand your intent so it can choose the right course of action.” Google intends to release this minor update to improve the ability to follow commands for controlling devices, playing music, and more. Additionally, Gemini should interrupt you less often, waiting for your command to finish before speaking.

As an AI assistant, Gemini’s ability to organize and manage lists/tasks is getting a much needed upgrade. Google says AI can now “handle more complex queries and better understand what item or list you’re referring to.” Improved handling of complex tasks such as editing lists and multi-step instructions.
Next round at Google

The parenting and digital well-being side of Google Home is getting a small touch. Parents can now block device access or limit screen time for “supervised and guest accounts.” As for bug fixes, this mid-April patch brings an update to the thermostat settings UI, especially its temperature slider. Users with iOS devices are getting a reliability fix for the camera connection as well as a clearer timeline.
April was busy; first day of the month, Gemini for the house received an update it made the AI-integrated software feel a little less robotic. Exact commands are a thing of the past because users no longer need to be so precise and rigid. Instead, Gemini can now understand more random speech/phrases when you ask it to do something. Plus, Google finally gave away Workspace accounts Home application support they are missing.
Workspace account users can now set up Nest devices, invite others to their “home” and more. they can.
Android Central’s Take
I don’t think anyone can deny that Google is focusing more on the smart home environment. Updates are coming fast and furious, some of which I’m sure have been voiced by users. Perhaps the most important innovations concern the sign of Gemini. The ability to understand, the ability to respond faster. These upgrades are on equal footing as they can make or break your experience (personally). No one wants to duplicate themselves with AI.
