World of Warcraft is an enigma. Now in its third decade of live action, using an engine developed in a completely different technological and cultural era – Blizzard has proven once again that it is still the absolute master of live action.
Launched as part of Microsoft’s Xbox operation, Blizzard was freed from its disruptive role under Activision’s previous shareholder culture and now operates as a separate business entity within the wider Microsoft Gaming pantheon. New leaders in place, a hands-on approach and a renewed focus on their customers have seen games like Overwatch, Hearthstoneand Diablo reaches new heights. And yes, like everything else, it hasn’t been perfect – but I think it’s undeniably top notch. a lot It’s the best place for Blizzard’s games, and it’s always getting better.

Each season, the world’s best WoW raiders come together for the Race to World First, an esports event where the best guilds compete to be the first to defeat WoW’s new bosses on the hardest modes.
In the era of datamining and public trial realms, it’s usually standard that WoW raiders can research and learn exactly what to expect when heading into boss battles these days. Blizzard tests new content with the community to ensure it’s smooth when it goes live to the public (sometimes with mixed results…). It enhances the polish, but also sometimes reduces the element of surprise. I started resisting the lure of WoW beta tests and YouTube spoilers so I could experience everything live in-game when they were fully finished.
Blizzard has taken it upon themselves this season, as you can see in the clips above and below.
While battling the final boss of this season, the fallen Naaru L’ura, US-based Liquid looked poised for a victory over Echo in EU. The team began recording live on Twitch as L’uran’s hitpoints reached zero… when something strange happened.
Despite living in an age of leaks and data mining, Blizzard somehow managed to keep L’ura’s true, Mythic difficulty final stage completely under wraps. The room immediately went dark, Liquid’s characters were stunned, and L’ura began to spew voids in all directions.
The reactions live on air were absolutely incredible as Liquid realized their victory celebration was unexpectedly premature. From the clutches of victory, Liquid jumped back into the jaws of defeat.
World of Warcraft currently ranks high as the top game category on Twitch As a result of Race to the First World and proving that Blizzard is well and truly staying at the top of their game.
The memes and reactions came thick and fast. “L’ura got up” To celebrate Easter Sunday’s best esports live action troll in gaming history (a niche category, I know).
I’ve had a lot of criticism for World of Warcraft in recent years. Last week I wrote an article to ask World of Warcraft will slow down the delivery of the story A bit to elaborate, but points like the above remind me why I love this game after two decades.

Man, if the reaction to this doesn’t show that hidden mythic stages are worth it when hundreds of thousands of players share the experience live, nothing will.April 5, 2026
I had no idea that Blizzard would still be willing to take such risks in 2026. World of Warcraft Mythic raid bosses have secret stages not for the first time, but for many years. Argus The Unmaker held a secret Mythic raid round in 2017. As far as I can remember, this was the last time a boss revealed a fully hidden stage live.
The sheer risk factor of launching an untested, secret boss stage at such a high-stakes esports event, live in-game, watched by tens of thousands of people – all of that could have passed. very very bad for the game there was some kind of game breaking bug in there. But the team rolled the dice and the gamble totally paid off.
World of Warcraft is still the best in its class
For all its flaws, World of Warcraft remains absolutely the best in its class in my opinion, and is still years, if not decades, ahead of it at the pinnacle of the MMO genre.
The game means a lot to many different types of people and types of players with its casual game content, and as you can see above, people who want to push themselves.
World of Warcraft: Midnight added the Player’s House, updated Silvermoon City and Zul’Aman, and the new playable race of Haranir. It also added new default UI features, game-changing Apex talents, and new side objectives such as “Prey” bounty hunting alongside Delves for solo game development.
I’ve always disliked the direction Blizzard decided on for WoW (um, where’s the Horde?) but it’s hard to deny the team’s continued passion and ambition for one of the industry’s most legendary and iconic live service games. May he live long.
