One of the biggest shakeups in Microsoft’s Xbox leadership happened in February of this year. Phil Spencer is retiring after 38 years with the company and serves as the head of 12 brands. He was replaced by the new CEO of Xbox Asha Sharmapreviously served as President of CoreAI Product. President of Game Content & Studios Matt Booty Promoted to EVP and chief content officer of Microsoft Gaming.
With the history of Sharma AI Ish immediately feared that the community would be flooded with Xbox AI even though he came under his wing when he was appointed he promised that this would not happenas well as my colleague and Windows Central executive editor Jez Corden he wrotehis expertise in integrating useful features and building social systems will greatly benefit Xbox.

But I suspect many will find his view of Sharma more interesting. Fries notes that he’s new blood in the Xbox ecosystem, and that he has a certain “edge” in terms of being able to bring fresh ideas to the table and “make things happen, change the world.” Note that said something similar in FebruarySharma is working on the business side of things, hinting that Matt Booty may focus on Xbox games.
“With Asha, I mean, she’s new, but she’s about the same age that I took playgroup, you know?” he said. “It’s kind of an advantage if you believe that anything is possible and you have great ideas and you can be naive enough not to know that they’re impossible and things happen and change the world. So I’m very optimistic.”
Since Sharma joined the Xbox team, Microsoft has improved or added a number of valuable featuresincluding some major customization improvements and Major overhaul of the achievements system. According to the information, he also believes that Xbox Game Pass is “too expensive for gamers” after last year’s big price increaseand seeks a “better value equation” with adjustments in both the short and long term.
As the new CEO of Xbox, one of Sharma’s biggest tasks will be helping to successfully launch Microsoft’s next console, an ambitious device codenamed Xbox. Project Helix that will function as a console-PC hybrid with the advantages and conveniences of both system types. Fries said that the work on Helix makes him believe that Microsoft values the Xbox a lot, which makes him happy as one of its original architects.
“I was really happy to hear about (Project Helix) … I think Xbox is bigger now than when I was there, it’s hard for me to even wrap my head around it,” he said. “But it’s an important business for Microsoft and (and) it feels like (Satya Nadella), Microsoft’s CEO, understands that this is important and wants to continue to support it. It makes me happy because I like that the things I’ve been working on are still here and around.”
