How do you feel about sad movies? I realized that you can’t always be happy in the cinema. Sometimes you need a good cry. It’s healthy, or at least I told myself after a few tears Hamnet. I’m fine with movies that make me cry, but I struggle with depressing stories. These are the movies I don’t want to watch.
There is a special group of movies that I can only watch once. For me, movies about family and heartache are soul-crushing movies. My pick for the most devastating movie of all time is one Oscar winning movie It features one of the greatest acting performances of the past 15 years. However, the movie broke me in such a way that I couldn’t watch it again. Other top picks include an unimaginable tragedy involving a wrestling family and a disturbing look at addiction. You can stream all of these options in the US
There will be mild spoilers.

Million Dollar Baby
Boxing turns into a tragedy
If there are any saddest movies on this list that I don’t like, Million Dollar Baby may be at the top of the list. I hate the ending; it’s not my cup of tea. Clint Eastwood, who also directed the film, played Frankie Dunn, a disgruntled boxing trainer and gym owner. One day, Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank), who wants to be a boxer, walks into a gym and asks Frank to train her. Despite her reluctance to train a woman, Frankie eventually agrees and Maggie competes for the title.
After tragedy strikes, the rest of the movie turns me off. It’s almost a crime how sad the ending is. No, thank you. The joke’s on me, though Million Dollar Baby won four Oscars, including Best Picture.

Marley and Me
A dog will break your heart
I recently wrote about how dog movies have high approval ratings. There is something special about watching a dog bond with a family. I don’t know if it brings people back to their childhood or reminds them of the goodness in animals. Whatever the reason, dogs, especially movie dogs, make people happy.
Well, all the joy for the dogs could be gone with the ending Marley and Me. top 85% Marley and Me It’s a heartwarming tale of how a labrador retriever named Marley is a positive influence on newlywed parents John (Owen Wilson) and Jenny Grogan (Jennifer Aniston). Then, the last 15% will surely rip your heart out of your chest. I know it comes full circle, but I have no intention of watching Marley face her death.

Blue Valentine
They say it’s hard to leave
I cannot recommend it in good faith Blue Valentine to anyone in a relationship. If you have a strong relationship with your significant other, you might try this movie to enjoy it Performances by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. If by any chance you think your partnership is on the rocks, don’t risk it.
Blue Valentine It depicts the meeting and downfall of the relationship between Dean (Gosling) and Cindy (Williams). The young love between Dean and Cindy is so sweet to witness. The film also hammers home viewers by depicting the breakdown of their marriages. Things get ugly, to say the least. Although I appreciate the acting, Blue Valentine it leaves me feeling hopeless. .

Requiem for a dream
Addiction in its worst form
Requiem for a dream – yes Disturbing, and then Darren Aronofsky’s psychological drama turned me away time and time again. Based on the 1978 novel of the same name Requiem for a dream follows how different forms of drug addiction affect people at different stages of their lives.
Witnessing the four main characters—Sarah (Ellen Burstyn), Harry (Jared Leto), and Marion (Jennifer Connelly) and Tyrone (Marlon Wayans)—overcome their addictions is as tough a watch as it gets. Burstyn was even nominated for an Academy Award for her work. This movie is not for everyone; it is merciless and violent. I respect what Aronofsky did, though I have no interest in returning to it.

Iron Claw
The forgotten family of wrestling
I’m an avid wrestling fan, so I knew the story involved the Von Erich family Iron claw. For a quick history lesson, the Von Erichs were a Texas wrestling family led by retired wrestler Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany). Fritz raised his sons – Kevin (Zac Efron), David (Harris Dickinson), Kerry (Jeremy Allen White) and Mike (Stanley Simons) — become wrestlers hoping to bring the family a world championship.
“Unthinkable” may be an understatement to describe what happened to this family. So crazy that the movie makes the polarizing decision not to mention one of the real-life sons. Death and the family curse destroy the Von Erichs. Efron is truly incredible in the lead role. Carrying the emotional burden placed on his shoulders would be difficult for any actor, but he turns in the performance of his career. The ending had me in tears when Kevin started talking about his brothers. I am amazed Iron clawbut I’ll probably never find the courage to watch it again

Manchester by the Sea
Recovering from an unimaginable tragedy
“Awesome” is the word that comes to mind when describing it Manchester by the SeaKenneth Lonergan’s extraordinary examination of grief and depression. Casey Affleck stars as Lee Chandler, an antisocial janitor who returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea after his brother Joe (Kyle Chandler) dies. Much to her surprise, Lee is named the guardian of Joe’s teenage son, Patrick (Lucas Hedges). Years ago, after an unspeakable tragedy, Lee left town.
Now that he’s back, he has to deal with the past. The first time I saw this movie, I gasped. There’s a scene in the movie where Lee says to Patrick, “cannot defeat him,” a reference to her trauma. I might rewatch certain scenes to appreciate that Oscar winning moviebut I cannot bear the thought of reliving Lee’s tragedy from beginning to end. I can’t beat him.
More movies to stream
You may not want to stream these six movies again. However, you probably will give some of these new movies a tryincluding Lurker On HBO Max and Accident On Netflix. Moreover, movies like La La Land and Knives Out have perfect endingsthey are such joys to watch.
