Starting simple, Pluto TV is one of the more popular streaming apps with a healthy in-demand library and live channels. If you want to be surprised, you can simply tune in to live channels or watch a library of movies and TV shows instead. I prefer Pluto TV over Xumo Play because of its larger library. Both are ad-supported, so you should prepare yourself for a lot of interruptions during streaming.
Pluto TV supports almost every platform, including Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, smartphones and browsers. This makes it easy to sync between devices if you choose to create an account. Pluto is primarily available in North America, Central and Latin America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, but you can. Use a VPN if you live outside these regions.
When I don’t have a particular title in mind, I turn to Pluto TV and I’m mentally free enough to sit through the live channels, waiting for something to catch my fancy. The on-demand catalog is decent, and while new content is limited, you’ll find plenty of Paramount-owned titles. I would note Pipesmuch, but it is not fully appreciated.

You haven’t heard Moviebut offers a unique library of films from small studios and independent creators. It’s free and ad-supported, but has fewer ads than alternatives like Fawesome. The focus is on indie films, but you may come across the occasional major studio production. I suggest using Filmzie as a companion app to Tubi when you can’t get your indie fix.
It supports Android, iOS, Android TV, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad and other smart TV platforms. Filmzie uses ad revenue to support indie filmmakers and has no “premium” titles — everything is 100% free. The app is available in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Asia and Africa.
RetroCrush
You missed it for old school anime
RetroCrush can be your go-to app for retro anime titles and hidden gems you’re hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Here you’ll find both old anime series and movies to satisfy your otaku itch. You may find the number of free titles somewhat less, as many series and movies are locked behind a paid tier. Still worth checking out.
It is available on Android, iOS, Google TV, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV and some other smart TV platforms. Availability is mostly in the US and Canada, so there’s a chance you won’t be able to find it in your area.

A polished Internet Archive stream for the Apple ecosystem
When you think of streaming, no one thinks of the Internet Archive, but it’s home to tens of thousands of public domain movies and shows, plus historical newsreels, documentaries, speeches, radio dramas, public domain podcasts, and music recordings. It’s a treasure trove of classic public domain content and Eye Spring brings the entire experience to iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. You no longer need to manually download files from the Internet Archive.
You won’t find new titles here since it’s pulled from the Internet Archive, but the library is deep and Eye Yay’s interface is slick and uncluttered. There are no ads, unplayable files are omitted, and you can save your browsing progress across all apps The Apple ecosystem. The app takes a while to populate the library as you search through a diverse collection focused on movies, classic TV, anime, VHS content, and the Prelinger Archives.

Eye Yay is great, but it’s designed for Apple devices. For Android users, Archive View achieves the same thing in a slightly different way. It also gets content from the Internet Archive, so you can watch feature films, silent movies, classic TV series, cartoons, commercials, newsreels, and more. you can find Archive View is designed for movies and TV shows, so you won’t find music or other content here.
Another feature that sets Archive Watch apart from Eye Yay is the live channel interface. It gives you a live TV experience where you can scroll through selected channels instead of spending time selecting a specific title. It is available globally in most regions, but specific titles may not be available everywhere.

Niche horror and rare 4K restored titles
Archive TV (not to be confused with Archive TV) may sound like another Internet Archive front end, but it’s actually commercial software from the Multicom Group. In addition to the public domain library, the app provides access to the group’s extensive library of rare and restored films, TV shows and horror films.
While most titles are free to watch with ads, there’s also a paid tier that removes ads and makes the full archive available, along with 4K resolution formats. Archive TV is available on Google TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku and other platforms. The library is primarily available to US and Canadian audiences, and is very limited in most other regions.

It can be tempting to pirate movies, shows, and other content, but free and legal streaming apps can prevent you from going down that path. Sure, the library will be different and dated, but you can discover classics, hidden gems, new favorites, and must-watch historical content in these apps. Almost all of them have modern interfaces and features that make your browsing experience even more rewarding.
