Kicking off the month on HBO Max is a new original documentary Bring Me the Beauties: Model CultUsing the story of one of the first male supermodels of the 1980s, it exposes a little-known cult prevalent in the industry.
The three-episode show follows Hoyt Richards, who, at just 16 years old, meets a mysterious Manhattan socialite on a Nantucket beach and is inducted into his spiritual group, Eternal Values. It wasn’t long before Richards rose to fame and the larger-than-life leader of the cult-like group, Frederick von Mierers, used the glamorous world of 1980s New York to prey on a community of young models and professionals. Von Mierers deceives them with his New Age cocktail of metaphysical and spiritual teachings and ensnares them in a web of lies and exploitation.
