In Community live streaming from Warhorsehowever, communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling shared some additional details about both projects. He began by confirming that both RPGs would be open-world, then announced that KCD2 creative director Prokop Jirsa would be in charge of the third Kingdom Come game, while KCD2 design director Victor Bocan would be in charge of the Middle-earth game.
He also confirmed the planned release window for the new Kingdom Come adventure: “If all goes well, next financial year is coming. That means you don’t have to wait seven years for another Kingdom Come.”
Stolz-Zwilling also touched on the fact that Warhorse has grown enough to comfortably work on two big projects at the same time, saying that despite the split on both games, “we’re still a big team.” “Of course there are still things that are collaborative,” he said.
He spoke specifically about the Lord of the Rings RPG, noting, “We have an absolutely incredible team ready to explore what this universe has to offer. And it’s still definitely a passion project.”
“I use that word a lot, but you know what I mean,” he added. “Don’t think it’s just, ‘Hey, you do this,’ and we have a job and now we’re doing it — it’s not. It’s not how we want to make games, we’re not swords for hire. We make the games we want to make and the way we want to make it.”
Elaborating on this, Stolz-Zwilling explained that the developers promised to “build the games in a very specific Warhorse style” – that is, focusing on the open-world reactivity and crisp systems-driven mechanics that distinguished KCD games as the best RPGs of the last decade.
“With KCD1 and KCD2, we have a very unique way of how we make RPGs, how we understand RPGs,” I said in an interview. Gamescom We want to be the new kings of RPGs. I think we have our own formula that you love, and that’s one of the reasons yesterday’s news made such big waves – because people believe we know what we’re doing.”
In closing, Stolz-Zwilling threw out some descriptions of who I am a lot pleased to hear, noting that the Middle-earth game will be “deeply immersive” with “interesting characters, memorable locations and, of course, a strong narrative focus” along with a “vibrant world”.
