In recent months Microsoft has taken significant steps to improve the Windows 11 user experience through it Windows K2 initiativeincluding Reduce the scale where Copilot and its integrations appear in the interface.
Now, it seems, these efforts have extended even further Microsoft Edge. As seen neowin, Microsoft has decided to stop AI powered date search feature In a Chromium-based browser
“Improved search finds sites in your History even when you use a synonym, word or typo,” Microsoft added. “Once this feature is turned on, the sites you visit will show up in enhanced history search results. The model is trained using your on-device data, which never leaves your device and is never sent to Microsoft. Admins can use the EdgeHistoryAISearchEnabled policy to disable this feature.”
Microsoft promised it feature will be used on the device AIkeeping your data private, secure and off the cloud. It should be noted that the feature was rolled out to users in waves.
The company has since Update on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap entry (dated June 25, 2026) stating:
“We have decided not to move forward with this change at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Neowin reported that many users described this feature “creepy”, others expressed concern about trusting Microsoft to store their data on the device. Some have also criticized it as another attempt to turn Edge into bloatware.
