As part of Microsoft Age of Empires revival, the third installment received the Definitive Edition treatment 2020. Although not so popular Age of Empires 2 (also got a great remake), Age of Empires 3 has a loyal following real time strategy (RTS) fans.
I have good news for those PC gamers. Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition currently testing a new one”Baltic states” expansion in open beta. Testing starts here July 23 – August 6after that, the expansion will officially begin September 10, 2026.
This is the first Age 3 expansion since 2022 Knights of the MediterraneanIt added the Italian and Maltese civilizations, as well as many new maps, new minor citizens, new game modes and new achievements.

Baltic states it was actually a previously planned DLC that was canceled. It’s not clear why it was cancelled, but I’m guessing the game proved to be durable enough in terms of player count to warrant new content. For reference, SteamDB lists the game that 24 hour player peak 5,470. Not bad at all.

Age of Empires 3: DE’s new DLC adds two new civilizations
The biggest addition to the game is undoubtedly the two new civilizations: Poles and Danes.
In the former case, you will control the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, focusing on economic advantages and cavalry armies.
For the second, you try to take control of the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway to strengthen naval control and a strong defense against your enemies.
DLC is coming with a new one challenge scenarios as kits to test your skills Regicide and Independence game modes. Regicide, as most Age veterans know, is a race to kill the enemy’s king. Independence is new to me and that includes a lack of Home City support.
And finally, if you’re feeling overwhelmed by your current map selection, Baltic states adds 20 new maps to the pool.
Can I still join the open beta test on Steam?
The open beta testing period continues until the expansion for the new Age 3 August 6. Make sure the game is downloaded to join the fun beforehand Steam.
Right click Age of Empires 3: DE your Steam libraryclick Featuresclick on it Game Versions and Betas tabthen click open_beta. With open beta files, the update should start automatically.
