Next-generation AMD gaming CPUs are the latest generation AMD gaming CPUs. The chipmaker whose astronomical RAM prices keep gamers from upgrading has released the best-in-class AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D for a better price than anything you’ll find on eBay.
You can get one of AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D rehashes starting June 25 for $350. To put that price tag into perspective, that’s $100 less than the card that launched in 2022. Current generation Ryzen 7 9850X3D—the chipmaker’s current best gaming processor for AM5 motherboards—has a suggested list price of $500. The 5800X3D was first released in 2022, just a few months before socket AM5 motherboards hit the scene.
Old is new in other ways. AMD is set to launch the previous generation Ryzen 7 7700X3D with eight cores and 16 threads for the AM5 socket on July 15, priced at $330. AMD called the chip an “entry point” for AM5. You might be wondering: why does a 4 year old chip cost more than a newer Ryzen 7000 series CPU? You can blame memory prices and the abusive resale market.
That price might not seem like a bargain—unless you’ve sought out one of these off-the-shelf plugs yourself. me personally have first-hand experience trying to find 5800X3D on reseller markets and the situation is not good. Many eBay listings in North America are asking $450 or more for a 4 year old CPU.
AMD goes a step further by helping PC buyers who can’t afford to upgrade their graphics cards. Team Red brings the $550 Radeon RX 9070 GRE to the US market. That’s basically it Same RX 9070 from 2025but with 12GB of VRAM instead of 8GB. It was previously exclusive to China, which makes sense since it fills an odd niche in AMD’s current graphics card lineup. The Radeon RX 9060 XT it has 16GB of VRAM like the company’s flagship RX 9070 XT.
The chip manufacturer has promised that the GRE card will be available for sale from June 1. AMD has been better than Nvidia at keeping GPU costs relatively stable, though we don’t expect the $550 price tag to stick around for too long. In fact, PC builders may be looking at side tiers rather than full upgrades in 2026. Gamers with older hardware are better off keeping old sticks of DDR4 RAM, which are cheaper (but still more expensive than necessary) on reseller markets.
In fact, AMD is bound to expand its 10-year-old AM4 motherboards even further in the future. The chip maker has promised to keep AM5 going until 2029, though by then computing may have already stalled on components made four or even 10 years ago.
