After first appearing in Android 17 Beta, Google’s screen recorder menu is now becoming an option that most people want to use.
New Screen recorder menu in Android 17 delivers functionality more quickly by presenting links instead of a drop-down menu. For example, the previous menu gave users the option to record device audio with a microphone or both. A new menu allows users to quickly enable these options and choose whether or not to show screen touches on a page.
None of this is new. The variables are those listed by default.
In Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3, Google has tweaked the menu so that the last used app is now the default option and “single app” is selected first in the dropdown menu. If you immediately click the “start” button, the latest program will be selected and saved.

The option has changed from “full screen”. It’s a welcome change, given the long-standing standard before Android 17 left the screen recorder on to record everything that’s opened. Privacy-conscious users will appreciate the new standard their Pixel.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 carries little in the way of additional UI changes. Fixed some animations and more blurred has been added.
