Android 17 QPR1 reaches Platform Stability with today’s Beta 6 release

Last week, Google released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 5 with a list of fixes. This comes just two weeks after the company unveiled Beta 4. Even though it’s only been a week, I hope you’re ready to update again. Google releases Android 17 QPR1 Beta 6.

according to the announcement about RedditAndroid 17 QPR1 Beta 6 is coming today. The update carries build number CP31.260618.005. It adds that Android 17 has reached Platform Stability since QPR1 Beta 6, which means that the API surface for developers is locked and you can incorporate the new APIs into your apps.

As usual, this new beta contains several fixes and improvements. What to expect:

  • Users could not select multiple spell checker languages.
  • In the watch app, pressing the device’s volume buttons failed to trigger the expected user interface actions.
  • Fixed visual glitches in the Quick Settings layout and settings icon, while quickly panning the media carousel improved animation and layout state handling during quick transitions.
  • An issue with WindowManagerGlobal resulting in application crashes.
  • Enabling the Wi-Fi hotspot showed a common default SSID instead of the user’s saved custom name.

Just like last time, Beta 6 will be available for the Pixel 6 series. The full list of compatible devices includes Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9, 9 Pro, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a, Pixel Tablet series devices.

There are a few interesting changes to be aware of in Beta 6. as Mishal Rahman Notes, the context menu of the home screen has been given a new design. The spaces between the menu items are now gone and the Wallpaper and style tag have been moved to the top.

Elsewhere, the Health Connect app now tracks and stores more metrics. Specifically, this beta introduces distance and calorie tracking.

Another thing to watch out for is repositioning the taskbar icons. When you’re in a desktop window, you’ll find the taskbar icons in the bottom left, not the bottom center. Additionally, your picture-in-picture (PiP) windows will now float freely in desktop windows. Prior to this update, the PiP window would move to the right or left side of the screen.
