If you’ve spent any time behind the wheel of Android Auto in the last few years, then you have probably He encountered pop-up warnings in Google Maps and realized how distracting they can be. Now Google is rolling out a redesign, and it’s a huge improvement.
Google Maps event reports, a hallmark of Waze, Introduced in 2024. It took several months Landing on Android Autoand it started Integration of Waze reports not long ago. There is Google pinch feature over the past few years, however, one thing it hasn’t focused on is design.
This design was a bit controversial, with some finding the pop-ups distracting as they would replace your written directions and/or ETA for a few minutes if you didn’t match them. In a 2025 surveya series 9 to 5 Google Readers were in favor of the current design, while others found it at least a little distracting.

Now Google is introducing a redesign.
The new popup is displayed directly during the estimated time, leaving all existing UI elements in place. Nothing happens, the alert just appears for a few seconds with a choice of “Yes” or “No” and then disappears.
As we saw in the Subaru Forester, the change to a longer display doesn’t make much of a difference. Google Maps kept directions easily visible most of the time, but the change in UI was more distracting than the new pop-up.
On a short and wide display like the Kia Niro EV pictured below, the new pop-up design still manages to appear without moving other UI elements, just by pushing the shortcuts usually found near the ETA down a little during the displayed few seconds.
It looks like the new Google Maps alert UI is now rolling out to Android Auto users, though we’re not sure if this was triggered by the recent Android Auto or Google Maps app update.
