Anthropic’s Claude Tag learns your company, one Slack message at a time


Anthropic introduces Claude Tag, the “always-on Claude” who lives in Slack and acts as an AI teammate, in a preview of the study. The new feature, which allows users to tag @Claude to submit insights and assign tasks in chats, will launch in a research preview available through Slack for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers.

Claude Tag is an evolution several integrations already available. Users can now contact @Claude on Slack or tag him in channels for on-demand help. Claude Code on Slack guides coding tasks from channel recordings to full coding sessions on the web, reposting updates to the topic.

But Claude Tag adds a persistent layer of context and memory that would be difficult to maintain with previous tools. “The more Claude watches his channel, the more he learns about the business,” said a statement from Anthropic. “If allowed to read other channels, Claude can also automatically gather facts from elsewhere in the organization.”

With a Claude Tag, everyone in a given Slack channel can access a single Claude identity, meaning “everyone can see what Claude is working on and pick up where the last one left off.” System administrators will determine which tools, data, and channels Claude can access, and each Claude identity will be contained within the channels defined by the admins, so a Claude set up for legitimate work cannot, for example, plant memories in an engineering channel.

When given a specific task, Claude Tag will break down the task into phases and respond in a Slack thread with what tools they’ve created. But Claude Tag also has an ambient mode that proactively jumps into the conversation at will to keep your team up to date, note everything within the organization, and follow up on forgotten topics or tasks.

Anthropic says it feels like working with a “real colleague—one who can create work in the public eye with greater context and understanding than ever before.”

This context is an increasingly critical part of enterprise deployments, and Anthropic isn’t the only company focusing on it. Microsoft also has Express Graph through Copilot and Work IQ. Snowflake and Databricks position their platform as a back-end support that contains hidden organizational knowledge that agents can use. Glean also builds an intelligence layer that understands the company context and sits between the model and enterprise data.
