When Apple announced a design overhaul, Liquid glassreceived a polarizing response from users at last year’s WWDC. While some users liked the shiny, transparent designs with a “glassy” look, others found the new design difficult to read. At Apple WWDC 2026 event On Monday, the company announced some changes that could benefit Liquid bottle haters between us.
Apple says it’s “reshaping the fundamentals of how Liquid Glass is built to deliver exceptional readability.” It appears to achieve this by spreading “complex content” behind it to create more depth and separation between content panels.
Most importantly, Apple said it won’t force users into this new look.
“Because everyone’s preferences are different, we’re adding new sliders and settings to adjust Liquid Glass, so you can set it anywhere from ultra clear to fully tinted,” the company said.

On both iOS and macOS, Apple will also redesign app icons to look sleeker and more unified, which could help tie in the Liquid Glass look. Developers will be happy to know that Liquid Glass customizations will work in their apps at launch.
It’s important enough to Apple that the company kicked off WWDC with confidence that Liquid Glass would only get better.
“As with all major design updates, there’s a natural process where we take bold leaps forward and then keep iterating,” Apple said in the presentation. “Our team really values your feedback, and we’ve taken it into deep consideration as we’ve refined the new design over the last year.”
