Apple TV a new remake debuts thriller Cape Fear. This latest limited series adaptation is star-studded, with Amy Adams, Javier Bardem and Patrick Wilson leading the cast.
Inspired by the 1991 film Cape Fear, a pair of lawyers’ worlds are turned upside down when the murderer they helped convict is released from prison…
The new Cape Fear premieres today, June 4, on Apple TV, with the first two episodes available to watch right now. Then, a new episode drops on the streaming service every week, culminating in the finale on July 31.
Some may wonder if this story is worth another adaptation. The high-profile 1991 film Cape Fear (directed by Martin Scorsese) was itself based on the original 1962 film Cape Fear. The new Apple TV version is the first time the story has been brought to television.
While the basic structure of the story is brought along for the ride, Apple TV Cape Fear introduces modern settings and plot lines, including modern technology like phones and a true crime podcast. But the gist is the same: a mentally unstable killer is out of prison and ready to terrorize the people who helped arrest him.
Critical reviews for the series have been generally positive, with Javier Bardem’s manic portrayal of Max clearly described. It currently holds a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
