Widow’s Bay is the new Apple TV comedy from Parks and Recreation’s Katie Dippold. Here’s what the early reviews are saying.
Widow’s Bay is another powerful addition to Apple TV arriving on April 29

Most TV shows and movies are comedies, thrillers, dramas, etc. fits neatly into a genre box like While there is always overlap between genres, it can be very difficult to create a complete genre mash-up.
Apple calls his new show Widow’s Bay is a “genre-bending” series that combines elements of comedy, horror, thriller and character drama.
This should not work. But based on early reviews, it totally sounds like it is.
Here are some excerpts from the first reviews:
- RogerEbert.com: “It’s really like nothing else on TV, it works because it’s fully committed to both halves of the equation.”
- AV Club: “Different elements coming together like lightning in glass, Widow’s Bay it is a place worth visiting.”
- The decision maker: “a terrifyingly good horror comedy that achieves a masterful blend of nail-biting terror and deliciously dark humor.”
Widow’s Bay premieres Wednesday, April 29 two episodes, followed by weekly releases until June 17, and a special two-episode release on May 27.
The series stars Matthew Rhys, Keith O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey.
It takes a unique skill to pull together such an odd mix of genres, but creator and showrunner Katie Dippold, director Hiro Murai and the rest of the creative team and cast clearly brought the product.
