
Apple today notified developers of upcoming age rating changes that will affect the classification of apps in the App Store in Australia and Vietnam. Here are the details.
The new rules come into effect on June 18, 2026
Over the past year, several countries have implemented new rules affecting how apps, features, and even entire categories of apps are accessible to minors in the App Store.
This is not a new issue, but recently in several countries as well began to adopt laws, guidelines and restrictions aimed at addressing online safety for minors, particularly around social media, mental health and potentially harmful gaming experiences.
Apple, in turn, is updating how age ratings work in the App Store to accommodate this regulatory change. more detailed evaluation system introduced last year and new age insurance tools this may prevent users from downloading 18+ apps in certain regions unless they are verified as adults.

In order to comply with Article 38 of Vietnam Decree No. 147, apps available on the App Store in Vietnam will require a regional age rating. Based on your answers to your age rating survey in App Store Connect, your app will receive one of four ratings (00+(all ages), 12+, 16+, or 18+) that will appear on the product page in Vietnam. Variables in Australia:
to adhere to Australian rules for the classification of computer gamesThe 15+ age rating will no longer be available in the Australian App Store. Apps currently rated 15+ with the following content descriptors will be upgraded to 16+:
- Unlimited web access
- Often medical or treatment information
Apple also reminded developers that “the new rating will appear on (their) app’s product page in Australia” and added that they should “ensure that responses to the age rating survey in App Store Connect accurately reflect the content of (their) app.”
