Applications close in 48 hours — here’s everything Australian founders need to know about the Stripe x Startup Battlefield


The window is almost closed. Eight startups will take the stage on August 19 Lane Tour Sydney in front of investors, global press and the Australian tech community. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is Stripe x Startup Battlefield?

Startup Battlefield is TechCrunch’s flagship pitch competition – launching Dropbox, Cloudflare, Discord and Trello. Collectively, Startup Battlefield alumni have raised $32 billion and held more than 250 pitches at more than 1,700 companies worldwide.

The Stripe x Startup Battlefield is a first-of-its-kind partnership with Stripe, bringing the competition to Sydney for one night only. Eight Australian startups will be selected for the live broadcast. Three people will win a prize. One will go to San Francisco.

Big winner: $15,000 in Stripe payment credits + automatic entry to the Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt, San Francisco, October 13-15, 2026.

Second place: $5,000 in Stripe payment credits.

Third place: $2,000 in Stripe paid credits.

Each applicant – regardless of whether or not they are selected to vote – will be invited and registered to attend the Stripe Tour Sydney on August 19.

What we’re looking for – and what won’t hold you back

We are not looking for the most polished companies in Australia. We are looking for the most promising ones. The question we ask about every app is simple: Does it change anything? Not gradually – really.

A few things that won’t disqualify you:

Some press coverage won’t hurt you. If your company has had local or industrial coverage, but your core technology hasn’t hit its stride yet, this is the stage for it.

You don’t need clients yet. You need a working MVP, but revenue and launch are not a requirement.

You have applied before. Many Startup Battlefield companies have applied multiple times before being selected. A past rejection is not a data point for your company’s future.

How to put together a powerful application

Show that your product works. Not a mockup. Not a pitch with screenshots. Your real MVP, in real time, on video – even if it’s rough. This is the most important part of your application.

Be honest about your opponent. Naming your competitors and specifically explaining why you won tells us more about your market understanding than TAM slides.

Tell us why. The founding story—what you saw, why now, why you’re the right person to build it—is a meaningful part of how we evaluate teams. Most founders write it. Don’t do it.

Don’t over-engineer. A clear, honest application that shows the real product will outperform a polished product that buries the company under it.

The deadline is July 20. He won’t move.
