Back roomssurprise hit of the summerwants to take you back to the room. A room means a theater. Its distributor, A24, is reportedly set to release a new version of the film with 15 extra minutes of footage from July 3.
according to AMC Theaters websitethe Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition “Includes 15 minutes of new, theatrically exclusive post-credits bonus footage (dir) from Kane Parsons.”
We don’t know exactly what’s in this footage, and surely A24 hopes you get to the theater to find out. We’d be very, very surprised if it expanded too much on the world’s mythology or its creepy, uncertain ending. That’s certainly the hope, but with a sequel almost on the way, we imagine most secrets will be kept under wraps until then. And yet, what about Back rooms has been traditional so far? We are just speculating. This could be a whole new ending with twists and turns about what exactly the back rooms are, where they come from, and what their purpose is.
The move comes at a time when the summer season is really heating up with upcoming releases Minions and Monsters, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: The New Day over the next few weeks. Currently, Back rooms sits at about $185 million domestically, but only grossed about $4 million last weekend, good enough for sixth place.
Adding in extra footage to get a few repeat views is probably on target to cross the $200 million mark domestically, which would be an incredible feat. Grossing over $185 million in the US and $330 million worldwide is not an incredible feat in itself.
