CachyOS targets performance first, making it a great choice for gamers and people who want more from their hardware.
After several disturbing candidates released, Linus released the Linux 7.0 kernel a few days ago. While the preview build seemed to have more bug fixes than usual, Linus felt the changes were small enough not to cause a delay. He also believes that the increase in fixes is due to AI assistants getting better at finding problems in the code, which is plausible.
If you want to try Linux 7.0, CachyOS is one of the first distros to make it available. Not only that, but the CachyOS team also managed to squeeze in a few fixes from 7.1.
It can be rotated now
As reported PhoronixThe Linux 7.0 kernel has just arrived in CachyOS. Before you get too excited, increasing the version number doesn’t indicate a major change in the kernel; it’s just that Linus felt that Linux 6.19 was too high for his liking, so he decided to reset the counter with version 7.0.
However, the Linux 7.0 version of CachyOS has several fixes from 7.1. For example, owners of an Intel Core Ultra Series 3 will find that the OS will enable Intel FRED by default, which should improve performance. The developers also mention a “new NTFS drive”. dual booting Windows and Linux is less of a headache and increase data transfer rates between two drives.
If you’ve never heard of CachyOS before, it’s a performance-driven distro that gamers often turn to for better framerates. That doesn’t mean only gamers will enjoy it. In fact, we found it the performance gains are also great for everyday tools.
