Anyone who has used the Internet in recent years is probably used to encountering Provocative features of LLM lazy users sometimes forget to remove AI-generated pabulum. But a Canadian lawmaker took that idea to an embarrassing new level this week, apparently reading an LLM manual during a speech.
Bill Oliver, member of the New Brunswick legislature for the Progressive Conservative Party, mentioned in his speech last month “One of the dangers associated with the creation of advocacy offices is that citizens often create expectations that exceed the powers assigned to these offices.” He then said aloud, “here’s a more natural, flowing version of this section that reads more like a legislative speech than a series of short bullet points,” and a line bearing all the hallmarks of LLM, providing an alternative stylistic option in response to a query.
The strange reading went more or less unnoticed at the time, but a video of the comments began to circulate on social media networks. Like reddit and Topics earlier this week.
