Pan Labyrinth This year marks its 20th anniversary, though its stunning artistry (and themes condemning far-right politics) remain as timeless as ever. to celebrate Guillermo del Toro‘s fantasy classic is getting a 4K theatrical showcase in both 2D and 3D versions courtesy of Cineverse and Fathom Entertainment. October 9 is coming. But before that, Insight Publications releases a pair of memorabilia that looks as good as the movie itself.
First Pan’s Labyrinth: The Complete Scenarioa foreword by director Baz Luhrmann, plus an introduction by del Toro himself. As you might expect, this won’t just be a hardcover copy of the script; will also feature “a wide range of materials from the making of the film, including new art specially commissioned by visual artist Thomas Hijo, original concept art and storyboards. From early visual designs to on-set moments, the book traces the development of the story’s characters, environments and atmosphere, revealing how the film was realized as a distinct fantasy and historical drama.”
It will cost $50 and will arrive on September 8. Let’s take a look at some of its contents:
Another Insight is volume Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth: Inside the Making of a Modern Fairy Tale – 20th Anniversary Edition. It is described as a “remastered and expanded” version, featuring a foreword by Steven Spielberg and a new foreword from del Toro.
Inside the Making of the Modern Fairy Tale “Explores the film’s creative journey, from the director’s initial ideas to casting, challenging filming and overwhelmingly positive critical response. Along with rare concept art and photography, there are exclusive insights from the director, stars, producers and other key players involved in the creation of this dark, haunting masterpiece.”
This book is $60 and releases on September 8th, though super fans may want to check out the limited edition version. Only 500 are available, and the first 100 are signed by del Toro ($350; unsigned versions are $175). It comes in a fancy slipcase with an even fancier slipcase and includes a “matching portfolio of four prints made by Thomas Hijo exclusively for Insight Publications, as well as two facsimiles of concept art by Raul Monge and Sergio Sandoval, and two facsimiles of the Crossads Book of Esther used in the film.”
