Enabot’s cute robots on wheels are always fun machines, but the most confusing thing about them is their animal magnetism. Apparently, cats can’t get enough of them, not only myself, but also my colleagues. I wonder if Enabot cat rubs their robots at the factory level before shipping them out.
That’s perfect, though, because Enabot’s smart family robots are primarily marketed as pets, with a secondary focus on family companionship and home control. It’s an all-in-one security camera on wheels that monitors your beloved two-legged or four-legged family members.
EBO Max is not cheap

What can this robot do?
Before installing the EBO Max, it was very important to let my cat sniff the robot to its heart’s content. This helped make it a new element in the home, as cats hate change and can be very nervous around moving objects.
After he was happy with the smell and familiar with it, I installed the EBO Max charging dock and turned it on. My cat was more interested than scared and even started cuddling with the bot right away.
The initial setup includes the EBO HOME application, which gives you comprehensive information about the robot’s capabilities. This is useful because the app, which is the main control center of the robot, has a lot to learn and explore.
The EBO Max bot can use V-SLAM Navigation to map your home. It can recognize family members after you register their faces and voice tracks, and once they’re saved, you can set voice call settings for those members. You can select specific family members to be notified if a drop is detected.
You can change the style and color of the incredibly expressive “eyes” of the EBO Max robot. They follow you in an almost sentient way, which is cute and human-like, too really creepy at 3 o’clock. It has a voice localization feature that causes the robot to turn towards you when it hears your voice. Thankfully, the bot can be scheduled to “close its eyes” during Do Not Disturb hours of your choice.
Since EBO Max has two-way communication, family members can even receive voice calls when fall detection is activated. You can take this a step further with activity detection, so you and your chosen family members will be notified when no activity is detected for the days you select.
The robot can be scheduled to patrol, play, or track people and/or pets in the home during the hours you choose, and you can set it to intelligently patrol the home along a route of your choice once the home is mapped. Additionally, you can adjust event recording settings to automatically record photos and videos of interactions. When the EBO Max battery runs out, it returns to its self-charging unit.
Since the EBO Max is Wi-Fi, it can be controlled remotely via an app. It has an 8-megapixel camera with 4K resolution, a wide 131° field of view and night vision, so the image quality is very sharp and clear in different lighting scenarios.
You can queue actions and sounds individually or together when playing with children or pets. There are lots of cat and dog sounds, as well as lots of moves, including some of the best moves from other EBO bots, such as the figure eight dance. EBO X.
Everything from the robot’s movement speed, sound and ringtone settings can also be adjusted. There’s no manual microphone and video shutter button or shutter release, but that’s a bit of privacy control.
However, Do Not Disturb mode can be used as an alternative. You can set the robot’s active “wake up” hours and even choose to have the screen (or the bot’s “eyes”) automatically turn off during DND night hours of your choice.
Because of course there is artificial intelligence
The EBO Max family bot has many useful AI features. To start conversations or give instructions, you start by saying “EBO EBO” in natural language. You can use the command “EBO EBO, follow me” to leave the robot charging unit and follow you around the house.
Other features include setting timers, reminders or alarms; asking about the weather; asking the robot to find a specific family member; and more.
You can use the Pet Parrot feature to change the pitch or clone your voice with artificial intelligence to use as the robot’s voice. So EBO Max can read your text when you send it to the robot.
The Enabot EBO Max family gave their bot an AI-powered brain, so it literally learns from all the information it absorbs and gets smarter the more it uses it. This adaptive behavior means that the bot remembers patterns and understands its surroundings and can even play a role depending on the role you assign it.
You can also define more complex commands. For example, you can say “I’m going on a two-day vacation starting tomorrow. Patrol the house three times a day and alert me to any unusual activity. Record a video of any activity,” and the EBO Max robot will do just that.
Finally, it can even pick apart memories and learn about your habits, hobbies, preferences and daily home life. It’s “Did Grandma take her medicine yesterday morning?” may be useful for questions such as or similar scenarios.
Using the AI features sometimes causes the bot to run a little hot, and the AI also sometimes hangs or glitches, especially after multiple questions are asked at the same time. Also, when you use the AI feature, it prevents you from falling in line or making animal noises while controlling the robot remotely.
Unfortunately, there is no smart home integration Twins or Alexaso you miss out on automation and options like playing music or turning on your TV. There is also no Bluetooth speaker mode. I find both Incredibly useful features in EBO Xso it was a flurry.
Should you buy Enabot EBO Max?
In many ways, it’s the smartest robot Enabot has ever made, though it lacks smart home integration and some finesse. Native Matter support would make this a monumental leap in the smart home world.
Once the EBO Max builds memories and learns enough, and with the help of firmware updates, I believe the minor hiccups will work themselves out. Enabot is very good with updates – I got one as soon as I installed the EBO Max robot.
At $599, the EBO Max is significantly cheaper than the $999 EBO X, which includes physical mute buttons for Alexa and the microphone and camera. So getting a huge chunk of its features and an AI brain that gets smarter over time, all for $400 is a bargain if you ask me.
If you need a smart home camera that can track and monitor your loved ones, or even entertain your kids and cats, EBO Max is the perfect family robot for you.
