In addition 3.6 FlashGoogle is also updating Gemini for macOS today with Neural Expressive design.
It got Gemini on Android, iOS and the web at I/O 2026 in May Neural Expressive design language. Now available on the Mac app.
When it starts, you’ll see the same color gradient temporarily covering the query bar. All icons in the app have been updated to a thin outline style. The home page alone has updated buttons for the sidebar, voice input, Timed chat, and even the full app/mini view (now rounded). You’ll also see new icons in the “plus” menu for consistency across platforms.
Old and new
The navigation box switches to pill-shaped indicators to mark what you’re currently viewing, while the Settings menu has also been updated.
Available with Neural Expressive version 1.86 Gemini for MacOS. The Gemini sidebar for Chrome today remains in the previous design language.
In other visual updates, Google this week unveiled the latest design for its AI mode on Android. In particular, the query box is now a floating container instead of being placed at the bottom of your screen like a scroll. Another tweak places the “plus” menu and submit button on the pills.
Prior to this redesign and Neural Expressive, both programs shared a subsheet search for their databoxes. (Google Health Coach still has that look.) Integrating AI expertise within the company was an interesting idea.
