While the new Google Workspace icons will appear at I/O 2026, Google didn’t discuss them during the keynote. After that, the company gave more details about the redesign.
After the keynote speech last Tuesday@GoogleWorkspace posted about how it’s “giving Google Workspace icons a brighter look to welcome this new era of help.” Google calls these “new logos for the Age of Gemini” “bold.”
At this point, all Workspace apps have AI features powered by Gemini, with I/O debuting. Gmail Live, Documents Liveand a new voice feature for Google Keep.
Google today was officially presented “Fresh visual identity for Google Workspace app icons”. As the new icon shapes make clear, this “modern” visual design “gives each app a more distinct identity.”
- “These changes create consistency and unity across our product suite, while ensuring that each individual app remains up-to-date and recognizable on your screen.”
For example, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Save, Forms, Sites, and Videos no longer use a piece of paper as a background container. Similarly, Calendar, Meet and Chat are no longer very simple. Gone is the mandate that logos use all four Google colors, Gmail being the only exception.
Google emphasizes that these “design updates do not change any core functionality or administrative controls.”
These updates will come to Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Meet, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Videos, Keep, Forms, Voice, Sites, and Tasks “over the next few weeks.”
