TL;DR
- Google has acknowledged a bug that prevented Gemini from properly handling Broadcast requests on Google Home devices.
- Instead of broadcasting, Gemini responds to messages like normal conversations.
- Google says it’s actively working on a fix and will update users as soon as it starts rolling out.
Google is working on a solution to the annoying problem Twins A bug that prevented Google Home’s Broadcast feature from working as intended.
A Reddit user recently reported that Broadcast has been down for a few days. according to postGemini no longer sends announcements to connected Google Home speakers and displays. Instead, it treats broadcast messages as normal prompts and responds to them in conversational fashion.
For example, when the user says, “It’s time for lunch,” Gemini replies, “I’m not eating.” Saying “it’s time to go” prompts Gemini to respond with something like, “Oh, okay, let’s call it off for now,” instead of sending a message to the household.
The user says that Broadcasting is their family’s most used Google Home feature, which makes the bug even more annoying.
Fortunately, it doesn’t look like users will have to wait long for a fix. In response to the complaint, Google said:
Hey, thanks for the feedback. We are actively working on a fix for this and will be back as soon as it starts rolling out. Thank you for your patience.
It’s great to see Google acknowledging the issue so quickly. Over the past few months, the company has been remarkably proactive in addressing complaints from Google Home users.
Most recently, he moved quickly to make amends Google Home speaker setup error this caused some new users to encounter errors while setting up their devices.
So if you’ve recently noticed Gemini responding to your broadcast messages instead of sending them on your Google Home speakers, it looks like Google is already at work.
