Joe Maring / Android Authority
TL; DR
- Google has released a statement in response to a German court’s ruling on faulty AI View content.
- The company emphasizes that the decision is not final and states that it is reviewing the results of the court.
- Google then points to the policies it has in place to correct problems with misleading or inaccurate AI summaries.
Earlier today, we shared with you the story of a court ruling on this in Munich, Germany Google must be ultimately responsible For false information provided as part of AI-generated news summaries such as AI reviews. We reached out to Google at the time, hoping to get their side of the story, and the company now Android Authoritymakes a statement.
A Google spokesperson tells us:
We invest deeply in the quality of AI Reviews to ensure that the vast majority of responses provide accurate information and are intended to reflect the information available on the web. We are carefully reviewing this decision, which is not yet final.
As the company points out, the German court’s decision is not necessarily final and is only part of the preliminary proceedings – so the story may not end here.
Google acknowledges that AI content like this is designed to be based on data from sources across the web, and there’s always a chance that its systems can get this analysis wrong. Because of this, he said, users should double-check any truly critical information they intend to trust.
Obviously, Google doesn’t i want Any misinformation that arises in AI Reviews and the company says it has policies in place to address such incidents. It’s also trying to get better at preventing such failures in the first place.
It all sounds relatively reasonable, but we’re not the ones trying to clear our name after tarnishing our reputation with AI Visions hallucinations. As more and more users turn to AI-powered search functions for their answers, will we see problems like this increase in frequency, or will Google’s mitigation efforts successfully keep things under control?
