TL;DR
- Gemini Spark comes to the Gemini macOS app and lets your Mac automate multi-step tasks like organizing files and creating spreadsheets.
- You’ll soon be able to set tasks from your phone and have Spark perform them remotely on your Mac.
- Spark also gets Google Keep and Google Tasks integration, along with real-time alerts for topics, sports and stock updates.
The Gemini macOS app gets a major upgrade with its arrival Gemini sparkGoogle’s AI agent that can perform tasks on your behalf.
If you’ve ever spent hours renaming dozens of photos, separating files into folders, or creating a spreadsheet by pulling numbers from multiple documents, that’s the kind of work Spark is designed to eliminate. Rather than instructing you on how to do something, it aims to do it for you.
For example, imagine you’ve just returned from vacation and your Downloads folder is full of photos. Instead of renaming each file yourself, you can simply ask Spark to organize and rename them by location or date. Likewise, if you’ve saved a stack of invoices on your Mac, Spark can gather relevant information, create a budget spreadsheet, and even schedule recurring updates without having to switch between apps.
This is a noticeable change AI assistants most people are used to. Spark is designed to handle multi-step workflows from start to finish, communicating with both your desktop and Google Workspace to complete tasks that would normally take longer.
Google he says privacy remains a key part of the experience. Spark only has access to files and folders you’ve publicly allowed access to, so browsing everything stored on your Mac isn’t free.
The feature is also getting an upgrade that could make it even more useful. You’ll soon be able to set tasks remotely from your phone while your Mac handles work in the background. For example, you go home and you can ask Spark to find last week’s sales report on your Mac, pull the total revenue figure, and even email it to you before it reaches your desk.
For now, Gemini Spark for macOS is available in beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers who are 18 or older in the US.
Google is also expanding Spark’s capabilities beyond the Mac. It now integrates with Google Keep and Google Tasks, making it easy to turn messy notes into actionable to-do lists.
Spark can also track threads on your behalf and notify you when something important happens. This could mean sending you a recap after your favorite football team’s match is over, or sending you an alert when a stock you’re watching hits a price you’ve specified. These updates have also started rolling out.
