I’ve made it clear how much I enjoy the Halo franchise. I practically jump at the chance to record it whenever I can, and I’m always disappointed that I never get a chance to play it properly. Halo: Fireteam Raven.
For those who don’t know, Fireteam Raven is an on-rails arcade shooter set during the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. Players take on the role of a group of ODSTs that set you off on the Autumn Pillar, the same ship Halo: Combat Evolved begins on, and then make their way to the Halo ring.
The game has long been locked on arcade machinesit worries me a lot. I’ve always thought it would be great if Halo Studios brought it to consoles, but since that probably isn’t happening anytime soon, some fans have taken matters into their own hands as a ROM of the game recently appeared online.
While I can’t share it for obvious legal reasons, it’s still nice to know the game is out there for those willing to look for it.
While sharing a ROM isn’t something I can do, it’s also not something I’d recommend you do for recording. However, there is a fairly active community dedicated to preserving and playing old arcade games, TeknoParrot being one of the most popular emulators used for this purpose.
I believe TeknoParrot requires a subscription for some features and even requires access to Fireteam Raven, and I’m not entirely sure I can contact him here as there may be any legal issues with how this software works.
More than anything, I thought it was cool. This allows me to Ask Microsoft and Halo Studios to release the game on Xbox and PC with my achievements, I was finally able to buy it and add another 100% completion to my Halo collection, something I’ve been determined to do with every game in the franchise.
But that’s just me. Have you had a chance to play Halo: Fireteam Raven or are you hearing about it for the first time? Let me know your thoughts in the comments and be sure to take our poll!
