TL; DR
- Google first brought AirDrop compatibility to Quick Share with the Pixel 10 phones last year before making the jump to the Pixel 9 models.
- Last week, Samsung said that the S26 will also join this club.
- Today, the manufacturer confirms that AirDrop support is starting to arrive this week.
Good that it didn’t take long! We finished last week with such news Samsung was preparing by following Google’s lead in breaking down the file transfer barriers between Android and iOS Quick Share is cross-compatible with Apple’s AirDrop. Mobile division COO Won-Joon Choi confirmed that support is on the way, and while he’s sure the update will be coming soon, we don’t have an exact timetable yet. Today, Samsung is starting to fill in the rest of those AirDrop gaps.
Samsung tells us that the Galaxy S26 is getting an update to bring AirDrop support for Quick Share in South Korea starting tomorrow. Access will expand to S26 phones in the US later this week.
Haven’t upgraded to the S26 family yet (or don’t plan to at all)? No problem there; Samsung also confirms that Quick Share’s AirDrop compatibility will be rolled out to older Galaxy devices “at a later date.”
Of course, this makes us wonder when One UI 8.5 might start running stable on last year’s Galaxy hardware — let alone start arriving in beta for additional devices.
While Samsung is still tight-lipped about that exact schedule, at least the AirDrop image is clear for new Galaxy S26 owners. Watch out for an update drop over the next few days!
