Google’s video generation AI models are finally getting the Nano Banana treatment. Gemini Omni Allows you to create a video in Gemini and replaces Veo. now, Twins The Omni model comes to the “Create” tab Google Photos program. The new Video Remix feature helps you take simple video clips and turn them into something new using Gemini Omni without leaving Google Photos.
I tried it, and while it doesn’t replace the full Omni experience in Gemini, Video Remix is pretty fun to use. You select a 10-second video clip, choose a Remix template, and wait for the remastered video to be created. Although I wish Video Remix supported longer clips, the results were better than I expected. Here’s how you can try Video Remix for yourself.
What you need to get started with Video Remix
Although the Video Remix experience is supported by Gemini Omni, you won’t find it in the Gemini app. Instead, you can use Video Remix in the Create tab of the Google Photos app. It lives alongside Photo Remix and Reimagine, the main difference being that Video Remix is made for short clips. In particular, you can select a 10-second part of the video to change using Omni and Video Remix.

Video Remix uses the following data templates to shake your clips:
- Relight my video with the morning glow
- Add a doodle to my video
- Set my video in a greenhouse
- Give my video an orange sunset glow
- Add variable laser light strobes

- Give my video a tropical sunset background

As you can see, Video Remix templates range from offering subtle lighting changes and background changes to completely rebuilding clips in selected art styles. Google says stable and static videos work best with Video Remix, and warns that it may not always work as expected or include audio.

How I use Video Remix to reimagine my photos
I shoot a bunch of videos that I rarely watch again, so I thought using Video Remix might be a fun way to play with clips lying around in my Google Photos library. I had videos of the dolphins from the boat ride and Clips from Meta Oakley summer runsand I used Video Remix to modify them. Here’s how I did it and how you can too:
1. open Google Photos program.
2. hit Create.
3. press Video remix.
4. choose a template.
5. choose a video Pictures from your library.
6. If your video is longer than 10 seconds, use it grab the handles to select a part of the video to remix. Then, click Create.
7. Wait for the clip to process. This may take up to two minutes. When done, play Video Remix output and click Save to add it to your library.

You have now created your first Video Remix. If the results are not what you expected, you can try again or choose a different instruction to get a new result.
Everything I did with Video Remix in Google Photos
Despite the short maximum video length, the results of Video Remix were impressive. For my first test, I tried taking a POV-style video from one of my runs and turning it into a moving watercolor painting. Gemini Omni As you can see below, it certainly got the effect.
However, the speech was too cartoonish for my liking. I tried the next doodle Video Remix template, I hope it will be more delicious. The speech was my favorite of all. It animated a video of me running across a bridge with stars, outlines, and arrows. A mundane jogging clip turned into something ready for social networks, which is the whole point of Video Remix.
For those who want a more subtle effect, there are lighting templates for Video Remix. I used the morning glow template in the video of the dolphins coming out of the water and it definitely changed the look of the clip. See for yourself in the video below.
All told, Video Remix does what it says it does – unless human faces are involved. In some cases, Video Remix won’t create a clip if it thinks the original video has minor faces. This certainly makes sense from a security perspective, but it doesn’t always get it right. Even when creating remixes of videos that contain adult faces, the output usually doesn’t match the original theme.
When to use Video Remix in Photos instead of Omni in Gemini
The Omni model in the Gemini app should still be your go-to for new video generations. However, for making small changes to existing clips, Video Remix in Google Photos is a better option. I’d like to see Video Remix support longer clips and expand access to free Photos users. For now, this is a great option For Google AI subscribers.
