Mirage is a new app that brings best-in-class desktop wireless screen sharing to your entire Apple ecosystem. You can stream from your Mac to your iPhone, iPad, Vision Pro, or even another Mac. It is very low latency and has many great features that make it a one-stop-shop for remote access to your Mac.
Best features
There are several header paths to use Mirage. The most popular method is probably to switch from Mac to iPad, which allows you to use the Mac desktop on iPad with full support for Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. If you have a powerful Mac Studio or Mac mini at home, that’s great, but just carry the iPad around as a laptop. With Mirage, you can remotely access your Mac in Retina quality. Despite being wireless, it actually works pretty well and can even support up to 120fps on ProMotion iPads.
Another great use case is Mac to Mac. If you have an older (or less capable) iMac at home, Mirage can let you turn that iMac into a secondary monitor for your primary Mac. You can even use a USB-C cable to boost streaming, making 5K iMac streaming possible.
Mirage though, it doesn’t just support primary or secondary screen sharing: it can also stream individual application windows. This is great if you’re only interested in having one Mac app on your iPad, but prefer to use iPadOS. This use case also applies well to Vision Pro.
Finally, Mirage supports remote connections via Tailscale. This means that if both devices have Tailscale (or some other form of shared VPN), you can access your desktop Mac at home while you’re on the road.
